Question

My tax forms were rejected and I could refile through the site. I ended up filing elsewhere. Does this qualify me for a full or partial refund from turbo tax?

My dependent was claimed by my ex wife which caused my return to be rejected. I then couldn't re-file my forms through the site so I went to a brick and mortar to file them and had to pay again.

You can try calling customer service, and they have the power to make exceptions. No one on this forum can offer a refund or access your account.  However, the fact is that if you used TurboTax online you paid to prepare a tax return. E-filing is not guaranteed for reasons such as this that are outside of TurboTax is control, and you did not pay extra for e-filing. You could have simply printed your tax return and mailed it to the IRS.  In fact, that’s what your brick and mortar tax preparer may have done, since I don’t know of a back door that would allow a professional to bypass the e-file block caused by the duplicate dependent (although I can’t rule out that such a back door exists).  Since you got a complete tax return that you couldn’t have printed, technically you got what you paid for, in customer service does not have to give you a refund, although they might make exceptions.

If you used the desktop version of TurboTax installed on your own computer, federal e-filing was included in the price and you will not get a refund if you chose to go someplace else, because once again, you received a completed printable tax return. However, you would have paid extra to e-file your state return and that can definitely be refunded if you did not e-file.  The desktop version also has a 60 day moneyback guarantee that you can apply for if you purchased the software less than 60 days ago.
