I filed our last married joint tax return year 2022 however, i am unsure how to file for year 2023 especially since I am receiving surviving spouse benefits from the VA.

You will file as Single if you didn't remarry in 2023, unless you have a child that meets certain qualifications, in which case you might be able to file as a Qualifying Surviving Spouse, which has certain tax advantages.  When you go through the Personal Info section in TurboTax, the program will determine if you meet those requirements.  Your surviving spouse benefits does not have any impact on your filing status.  Again, you will probably file Single.  And I'm sorry for your loss!
