Question

NC Education Lottery W-2G

I have a few W-2G forms from the North Carolina Education Lottery.  They did not withhold federal tax on any of the W-2Gs, box 4 says $0.00.  The amount ranges won are between $600 - $2,000.

Turbo Tax error message says NEEDS REVIEW.  Is this because NCEL did not withhold federal tax?  This happened whether I left the federal tax box blank or added $0.00.

How do I fix this?

The following boxes are filled

  • BOX 1  Reportable Winnings
  • BOX 2  Date Won
  • BOX 3  Type of Wager
  • BOX 4  Federal income tax withheld $0.00 on all forms
  • BOX 5  Transaction
  • BOX 9  Winner's TIN
  • BOX 14  State Winnings
  • BOX 15  State Income Tax Withheld

It is probably not because taxes were not withheld from the W-2G.

I suggest you run the Federal Review and answer all of the questions.

This will typically clear the error messages from your return.

    Log into TurboTax

    On the left side bar

    1. Under Federal
    2. Selects REVIEW
    3. The software will list every area that has missing data.
