    Using the TurboTax desktop editions click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen and click on New Tax Return.

    The desktop editions come with 5 free federal e-files (number set by the IRS and cannot be changed).  After the 5 e-files have been used then all other tax returns can only be printed and mailed.
