Non-Citizen Working Remote from Brazil - Taxes

Hello my friends.

First of all, in advance, thank you for your attention.

My question is simple; I'm in the US right now on a J1 Internship Visa - I'm going back to Brazil on June 5th, when my visa ends. The company that I work for asked if I wanted to keep working remote from Brazil - by doing that, do I pay taxes in the US?

My lawyer told me that's totally fine to work remote from Brazil with the condition that I get paid in reais, the current currency in Brazil.

Taxwise, should I work as a contractor or employee? Which would be the 'easiest' way for the company to hire me?

Thank you so much!

1. I would recommend employee status due to the taxation level and complication of return. If you are a contractor, you would have to file as self-employed.

Income earned from the U.S. would be taxable income. I see in United States Income Tax Treaties there is no treaty with Brazil.

If this is a U.S. based company, you will pay taxes to the U.S. and also to Brazil.

2. Easiest for the company - either one is simple for them, cheapest, contractor.
