Notice of Tax Return Change- Renter's credit not being applied.

Hi there, I filed my taxes with the self employed Turbo Tax set up everything that was approved and then I received a Notice of Tax Return Change from the California Tax board.  After reviewing things it looks like they aren't counting the renter's credit that TurboTax said I qualified for (which from my research I should because I paid rent for an apartment the whole year). I'm going to try talking it out with them and see why they aren't counting it, but as I haven't yet paid the amount TurboTax said I owed, I got a bill for the full amount.

If I need to, is there an easy way to make the adjustment through the TurboTax site, or am I going to have to make another account and pay the difference?

Unfortunately these items are unrelated.

In regards to the notice from the Franchise Tax Board, you should reply to the notice directly with them showing you did meet all of the requirements to claim the renter's credit.

Attach your support with your response and reply following the instructions on your notice.

As long as you can show you did qualify for the renter's credit as picked up in your tax return based upon your answers, they will change their findings to allow the credit.

The fees from TurboTax are for the use of the software to prepare the forms to file your returns.  Therefore, they are unrelated to the adjustments being made by the state of California.

TurboTax only prepares your returns based upon your answers to the questions.

In relation to the fee's. I set up an automatic payment through the turbotax to pay the estimated amount they gave me to go off in a few days (after I got paid). The question was can I adjust that amount or am I going to have to create a secondary payment if I can't prove I qualify for the tax credit of the difference. I know the fee's I paid TurboTax are for them processing things.

If you need to make adjustments for fees due to TurboTax, you will need to contact Support.

What is the TurboTax phone number
