On the deduction page why can’t I just choose one I don’t talk to my husband ?

The rule about using the same deduction type as your spouse is designed to keep married couples from filing separately and taking too much deduction, by one of them reporting all the itemized deductions and the other taking the standard deduction. 

 

If you don't talk to your husband, you can just pick the option that is best for you or you can pick the option that you think he would use. 

 

Keep in mind, the standard deduction is used by nearly everyone now. Itemizing is down to just 13.7% of returns filed. If you just use the standard deduction, you probably won't have any problems.
