Online TT Deluxe: Incorrect error disallows e-filing after payment processed

After paying to e-file my federal and state (NY) returns together, I get a "Lets make sure everything is accurate" page that states "a couple of things on my federal form need fixing".  I have a choice to File by Mail or Fix Federal Return, which I select.  It shows one of my 1099-Rs and states "for electronic filing New York State withholdings can not be greater than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution."  When looking at the forms this is not the case (the state withholdings are less than the gross distribution).  I encountered this issue last year and ended up mailing my federal form in, but since this bug is over a year old I decided to let you know.

Yes, you can easily fix this error and e-file you return. The message is referring to box 16 state gross distribution, which is often left blank on Form 1099-R.

To correct it, enter the same amount in box 16 as the amount in box 1. Here's how to correct that in TurboTax Online:

    1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
    2. Select Wages & Income.
    3. Scroll down to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), select Revisit to the right.
    4. On the screen, Here's your 1099-R info, select Edit to the right of the 1099-R that is giving you the error.
    5. Continue until you get to Enter your 1099-R details from (name).
    6. At the bottom of the screen enter the same amount in box 16 as the amount in box 1, select Continue.
    7. Select Review from the left-side menu, then continue with your tax return.
