Out of state income got taxed twice
My wife and I live in Wisconsin.
She works from home (in Wisconsin) and receives wages from Illinois.
We just realized after this year's tax return, that her wages are not supposed to be tax by Illinois. From Schedule NR IL-1040 Instructions for Step 3 Line 5, (basically, the amount entered here will be taxed by Illinois).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enter the amount shown as Illinois wages on the Illinois copy of the
W-2 forms you received while you were a nonresident.
Do not include any Illinois wages you received while
you were a resident of Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, or Wisconsin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the past few years, this entry has always been entered automatically.
And somehow because the WI tax is done before the IL tax, we didn't receive any tax credit either. (mentioned here)
Is there anything we can do now?
