Question

Owe taxes for 2024, already on IRS installment plan - will I default if I pay current taxes?

I'm current on an IRS installment plan for past taxes. I owe taxes for 2024 but plan to pay all of 2024 taxes when I file.

Will my current payment plan default because of this? Or if I pay all of 2024 owed on filing, will my plan stay current?

Yes, your IRS installment plan will remain active if you're up to date with your payments.

It will not default because you pay your 2024 taxes.

On the contrary, your Installment agreement will default if you fail to file your 2024 return and pay all taxes due.

Please read this IRS document for more information.
