Question

PA state tax return for child income

My child, 18 yo as of 12/31/2019, earned about 3K of PA income in 2019.

Does he have to file a PA tax return separately or do I file his income along with mine?

If he files a separate return do I exclude him from mine or can I still show him as dependent?

Thanks

You can still claim your child as a dependent (as he could not have provided more than half of his own support with his income). You do not include his income in your tax return.

If the income of $3,000 is from wages, your child is not required to file a federal or state return. However, if tax is withheld on form W-2, he/she can file a return (federal and/or state) to obtain a refund).
