Paying Taxes Online Via Credit Card After Efiling

Hello,

I just E-Filed on April 8, 2025 and my return has been accepted.  I chose the option to mail a check for my taxes due and have printed out the Form 1040-V Payment Vouncher.

My question is, can I still pay my 2024 taxes due via credit card at the IRS website, or do I have to mail in a check as this was my selection when filing

Thanks!

No.  You do not have to mail a check.  If fact the IRS would prefer you pay your tax online.  Keep in mind, if you use a credit or debit card you will be using a third party vendor that will charge you a fee, albeit a small fee for pay via credit card.

Thank you, I suspected that was the case.  I'm assuming I just need to pay before the filing deadline of April 15th.  Do you happen to know if there is a processing time or other reason that would cause a delay in when the IRS actually receives payment?  I'm asking as I also need to pay estimated taxes for 2025 and want to space the payments apart.  Thanks again!

As long as you submit your payment by or on April 15, it will be considered on time (even if there is a slight delay in the receipt of the funds at the IRS.)
