How do I pay a 1099 side gig’s taxes owed using the same year’s W-2 refund?

when you report all your income on one 1040, like you are supposed to, it will happen.

Enter all of your income including the "side gig" income. The software will calculate how much you owe or whether you still receive a refund. Since you have some self-employment income you need to use online Self-Employed or any version of the CD/download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for any expenses you had as an independent contractor.
