Question

penalty for estimated tax

I am working as an independent contractor in 2022 for an ESL company and will make approximately $16,000 in addition to the retirement check I receive from the state of Georgia as a retired educator. 2022 would be my first year that I have been retired completely from the school system. I worked until May in the previous year and retired. I would think this would qualify as a life changing event so that I would not be charged a penalty for not paying estimated taxes this year. Do you know if this would be considered a qualifying event or will I be charged a penalty?
