PFL income is being counted twice

When I enter my PFL income it is counting it twice as taxable income.

I have deleted it and reentered it and it continues to show up under both: other income and 1099-G unemployment and PFL.

When I go into "other income" 1099-G - I select NO and so it is not saving it there or anywhere else.

Please advise how to address this system glitch.

I did enter it manually.

And I did check the PFL box.

Unfortunately I don't have time to keep troubleshooting it so I switched to freetaxusa.com which is a company recommended by the IRS.

It was free, easier to deal with, more accurate, less redundant AND I got a bigger refund.

You only enter your Paid Family Leave from Form 1099-G in the Unemployment and paid family leave Section under Unemployment Government benefits on Form 1099-G.  It shouldn't be under Other Income.

Delete the entry under Other 1099-G Income. Follow the steps below to delete the information that you entered there.

  1. In the Wages & Income section, scroll down to Other 1099-G Income
  2. On the Government Payments Summary screen Select the trash can  next to the payment that you entered.

This should eliminate the duplicate entry.

I did that multiple times as I mentioned in my first message. It is not entered anywhere else.

On what lines of which forms of your tax return (not summaries or the like in TurboTax) is this PFL amount appearing?

Is this happening on your federal return (1040) or on a state return (which state?)?

Did you enter a W-2 as well? Did you check "Paid Family Leave" in the screens that follow entering the W-2?

Sorry it is not clear to me what you entered where and where the PFL appeared on your return.

Yeah, I ran into the same bug myself, and I agree—it definitely seems to be a bug. I was able to resolve it by removing my 1099-G then readding it by manually typing it (rather than uploading a photo).

I think the bug might've been caused by the photo-scanning because my California 1099-G had a table A (for unemployment compensation, which was $0.00 for me) and a table B (for unemployment compensation and paid family leave, which was the expected amount). Only one had an amount, but I think the OCR misinterpreted the two "box 1" values as the latter value, leading it to effectively double the paid family leave compensation.

This is a pretty dangerous bug, since it could easily cost a ton of new parents thousands of dollars if they're not paying super keen attention to the last page of the federal returns summary, since it doesn't show as doubled in the "Here's your 1099-G info" section.
