If you are using Turbo Tax Online, the most likely reason for buttons that don't work or not being able to enter information is that something in the web browser is not displaying the page properly.  The easiest way around this is to simply use a different web browser.  You can select from Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari.   If you need to install another browser, be sure to go to the trusted home site for the software for  security reasons.

If you are using the Turbo Tax Phone App, then try opening Turbo Tax in the browser window on your phone.  It will use the same login information but may display the page better.

If you are using the TurboTax desktop and it will not let you enter a field in the W-2 section, as in the original post, please delete this W-2 and try again. If you imported it directly from your employer, it might have been damaged in the transfer. Trying again, or typing in manually should solve the problem.

To delete the incorrect W-2:

  • Click on the Federal Taxes tab,
  • Click on Wages and Salaries and Show More
  • Then Update
  • Click the trashcan icon next to Review.
  • Select Yes to confirm.
  • Then click the blue button to Add Another W-2

@tmunoz this did not work for me. On TurboTax desktop PC, Turbotax is not accepting input from keyboard when manually entering in a W2. Keyboard is working properly everywhere else in the application. I've tried deleting the W2 and starting again. I'm able to enter in the employer ID, but on the next step where you enter income, etc. I am unable to enter anything. I am using a tablet computer with a keyboard connected via bluetooth.

The same thing was happening to me with my laptop. I was using the touch screen to navigate the fields. I needed to double click with my mouse instead of the touch screen in order for it to allow me to type in the numbers

Ditto - thanks!

same thing is happening for me with downloaded version. i can add the EIN, but not any other character or digits.  i deleted the W2 and recreated several times.  restarted computer twice.  after seeing others with same issue i expect this is a turbotax issue.  i may try to call but would like to hear if/how others got this fixed.

very annoying.

thanks everyone

Can you make sure your software is updated by using the FAQ link provided below? If that still does not work, I would suggest reaching out to TurboTax customer support for additional assistance:

On the desktop version, this happens to me when TT wants to open a worksheet behind the entry. For example, when I want to enter the total amount I spend on medicine, TT wants me to list how much I paid to each pharmacy. There is no message indicating this but I found that if you DOUBLE CLICK the field, it pops up the worksheet. This is a very bad design IMHO with a very bad user experience. But try double clicking.
