Problem with Form 6251 for AMT, not calculating line 10?

My form 6251 for AMT is not calculating a number for Line 10.

Line 6 says: "Subtract line 5 from line 4. If more than zero , go to line 7. If zero or less, enter -0- here and on lines 7,9, and 11 and go to line 10."

My line 6 is zero or less. There is a zero on line 6, 9, and 11, but no zero on line 7? Nothing on Line 7 instructions apply to me.

If I look at page 2, and follow the lines/numbers to line 40, it shows zero, which should get transferred to line 7. ( smaller of line 38 or line 39, which are both zeros).

Still no zero on line 7 and no number calculation for line 10.

Any help would be appreciated. Spoke with someone at turbo tax support and they couldn't figure it out either??

I am using the CD download for windows, Home & Biz.

HI everyone,

It's been more than a week since I posted. There must be someone with a form 6251 for the AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) in their tax return that can tell me if their form is putting a zero on line 7 and a number on line 10 to calculate line 11.

Any info or help would be appreciated!

Line 10 would normally have the amount from line 16, your income tax, listed on it. However, since line 11 is line 10 subtracted from line 9 (but not less than $0), line 11 will be $0 regardless of what is in line 10, since line 9 is $0. While I'm not sure why line 10 does not seem to have the correct number on it in TurboTax, it does not affect the tax calculated on the form.

Thank you for responding! When I look at the data source for line 10, it shows that it is Line 16 from my 1040, but it is not showing on line 10. Also, line 6 says if zero or less, enter -0- here (line 6) and on lines 7,9, and 11 and go to line 10.

On my form -0- is entered on line 6, 9 and 11, but it does not on line 7???

Do you have any thoughts on that? Since we are given the option to add the form to our tax return, I would think this is not filled out correctly. Since you work for turbo should I contact Turbo tax?
