I am having the following issue when entering medical expenses.

1) For each of the following screens, there is a single text box which is prepopulated with $0, and the program wont let me change it.

Tell us about any prescription medication expenses - Prescription expenses

Tell us about anything spent on medical professionals -Medical professionals fees

Tell us about anything spent on medical facility fees - Medical facility fees

Tell us about anything spent on x-ray and lab work fees - Lab and x-ray fees

2) For the screen "Tell us about anything spent on medical travel," the text box "Miles driven to get medical care" is prepopulated with 0 (zero). It doesn't let me change it, and if I try to "Continue", I get the message
"Value must be greater than 0"

If you are using the desktop program, that error comes from the supporting details that were transferred from your prior year return.   To get rid of this error, take the following steps.  You can into Forms mode and erase that detail or fix it from the interview mode.    When you click on EDIT next to the medical expense entry spot and see a $0 that you can't edit, there are 2 things you can do:

  • Double click in the field and use the Red X (Remove) to remove the supporting details worksheet.  or
  • Go to the top Edit menu (Windows versions only) and choose Add Supporting Details.   Then click on the Red X (Remove) at the top.

Either one of these should allow you to enter your expenses.
