Question about IRS balance

I had to amend my return and then owed more money. I paid the money I owed on the online irs account. It shows the payment I made which was a month ago and it cleared. Why is my irs account now showing I owe that balance when it was cleared a month ago?

If the IRS is still processing your amended tax return, then it may take longer for the payment to show up on your account as well. Check the status of your amended tax return using this link: Where is my amended return?

If it shows as processed, then I would suggest giving the IRS a call at 1-800-829-1040 to make sure that the payment was applied to the correct year/account.
