Used Turbo Tax last year (and actually for last several years) ...and I recall vaguely this questions popped up. For this year's taxes, I used last year's Turbo Tax file and wondering why Turbo Tax does not keep a track of this info, as last year's info was imported?

Is there a place on last year's PDF I can look up this info, since the software is not intelligent enough to keep track or is there a website that keeps track of this if you have already claimed this in prior years? Frustrating!!!

Thank you in advance for your anticipated response.

You can get the AOTC a total of four times during your undergraduate college education.  But some (or all) of those times could be on parent's returns if you were claimed as a dependent.  So, no, TT cannot track how many times you used it.  If you have been claimed as a dependent, you should check with whoever claimed you.

Thank you XMASBABY. I checked Previous Years's taxes, and it was not claimed. For anyone else who has the same question, it is on Form 8863 of your prior year's tax return line #29.  It sure would be nice if the Federal Govt kept a track of it and one can view on a Federal Govt website (like the IRS LOL) if it has been claimed.... but that is a different battle. Thank you again. Pretty **bleep** sure, if it was taken in the past IRS will send out a letter LOL.
