Question

Received 2 Form 1099R's for the same annuity in 2020. Different Gross Distributions, Taxable amounts, and state taxes withheld. Resident of AZ for 230 days, MI for 125 days. Only MI withheld taxes. How to File State taxes?

So you took 2 different distributions from the annuity. The state you lived in when you got the distribution gets to tax it. So, you need to determine where you lived when you received each distribution and include it there.

The distributions are monthly direct deposits to my bank account. Lived in AZ most of the year 240 days and used our MI cottage for 125 days [in June July & August when its too hot down here]. do I allocate it to each state by percentage? 240/365=66% to AZ and 125/365=33% to MI.?
