Question

Receiving a deceased parent's pension

Hello!  I am filing for my younger cousins.  Their mother passed away in September 2019.  They receive her pension still.  Would they have to claim that?  What form should I tell them to look for?

Thank you!

Are your cousins receiving a payment as beneficiaries after the passing of their mother?  If so, the 1099-R's would be in their name and social security number and would be reported as any other 1099-R.

See this TurboTax Help for information.

If the payment is still in the name and social security of their mother, the cousins should notify the issuer of the pension of the death of their mother.  [Edited 03/04/20 9:34 AM]
