Receiving a W2 from a state I did not live in

Hello.  Over 2 years ago I moved from New York to Georgia.  For the entirety of 2023 I lived and worked in Georgia.  I did not live or work in New York.  However, I received a W2 showing wages I earned in Georgia.  And I received a W2 showing I earned the same wages in New York.  Again, in 2023 I neither lived or worked in New York.  I called the NYS IRS to ask them about it and they said to disregard the W2 and use what was on my pay stubs.  I'm not comfortable doing that.

So, my question is this.  How should I handle a W2 for income I didn't earn in a state nor did I live in that state?

Thank You.

If you are not comfortable with ignoring the W2 after NY advised you to do so, you can contact your employer so they can issue a corrected W2 and remove NY as the state payor
