@redglass77 , my answer applies to Michigan only ( probably similar to other states) --- the state requires you only to fill out the address, number of months and rent paid per month --- landlord's name , address and if possible SSN on form 1040-CR. You do not need Landlord's help -- if he refuses his address, then put the address where you send the rent check. 20% of the rent is counted as property tax contribution towards the homestead credit computation.
