Registered Domestic Partnership in Oregon

My partner and I got our Registered Domestic Partnership (RDP) in Oregon in 2024. As a result, we now must file jointly or separately as if we are a married couple at the state level. The Federal government doesn't recognize domestic partnerships as married individuals for federal tax purposes.

Our question is:  Can TurboTax consult on RDPs and support our Oregon state filing?

Yes, TurboTax can handle RDPs filing separately at the federal level and jointly at the state level.  However, you will have to mail the Oregon return in as you can't efile a state return with TurboTax if the federal file has not been accepted.

In order to do this you would create and file your single federal returns.  Then you will create a mock federal return for the  two of you as if you were going to file jointly.  You will attach an Oregon state return to that.  When you reach the end of preparation you will tell the system that you want to print and mail your returns.  Do not mail the federal return, only the state return.
