Rejected 1040-SR Because "Payer Federal ID Number Does Not Match IRS Records"

My federal tax return was rejected because "F1099R-502-02 - The Payer Federal Id Number entered does not match what the IRS has in its records." All 5 of my 1099-R's were flagged. But these are the same 1099-R's that I filed with TurboTax last year (and the previous decade). I check and rechecked and what's in TurboTax matches my 1040-R's. Is this a TurboTax glitch or has the IRS been DOGE'd?

I recommend deleting the 1099-R forms and then manually re-entering them.  You can try deleting and adding each form one at a time to find the form that has the problem or you can do this for all of the forms.

To delete your input in the 1099-R section, follow the steps in this link to get to the 1099-R input section.

Once there, select Update to the right of IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

  • This will take you to the screen with all of your 1099-R entries.
  • Select Edit to remove each 1099-R depending upon the approach you choose to take.
  • Select Add Another 1099-R to enter the 1099-R again.

This suggestion resolved my issue, but it was upsetting not to be able to import the information from last year's successful TurboTax return. I had to re-enter the information from five 1099-R's.
