Question

rejected return

Return has been rejected twice for an invalid IP PIN which no one on the return has ever applied.  There are no numbers listed on return and I have checked the box saying no one has such a number.  Can not find a number to call believing the problem is with the program.

The IP Pin is different than the 5-digit signature Pin. Additionally, the IP Pin will change each and every year. This is an Identity Protection Pin.

You can get an Identity Protection pin here, or if you lost your IP PIN, you can go here to Retrieve IP PIN.

The rejection was from the IRS, not TurboTax.  Apparently the IRS has one of the Social Security numbers on your return assigned an IP PIN.

You will need to call the IRS for assistance with this problem.  Your tax return will have to be printed and mailed since the IRS will continue to reject the e-filed tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for how to print and mail the tax return when using the online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/print-mail-return-turbotax-online/L5bwuqXGy_US_en_US?uid=lrurtxfx

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
    - When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
    - After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
