Question

Relating to the AOTC. If my dependent son qualifies for this and we, his parents, owe taxes will he still get this money?

If your son is your dependent, he can't claim the AOTC on his tax return.

You, the parents have to claim education credits, including the AOTC for your dependent son, on your tax return. If you owe taxes, the IRS may offset your refund.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

Yes. My son was never going to include this on his own return as he is our dependent. We included this with our return. I was just confused thinking that he would get money from this and if we owe taxes that he wouldn't see that money. I think you answered my question though.
