Hi, I help my parents file their taxes every year. Currently, they are both retired. They got Social security, 1099-r and 1098. Do they need to file taxes?

Maybe----You have not mentioned how much income they received that is on the 1099R's.

You need to file a federal return if half your Social Security plus your other income is

Single or Head of Household      $25,000

    Married Filing Jointly                  $32,000

    Married Filing Separately            $0

    Who has to file?
