Schedule C, Line 15 and Schedule 1, Line 17 NOT IN SYNC - ERROR WITH TURBO TAX 2021 For Home and Business Software

Why does Turbo Tax 2021 for Home and Business allow an entry in the BOX for "Self-Employed Health Insurance?"  I entered the cost of my Self-employed Health Insurance in this box, and this results in an OVERSTATEMENT of my Self-Employed Health Insurance Deduction on Schedule 1, Line 17 "Self-Employed Health Insurance Deduction." The OVERSTATED AMOUNT is almost TWICE the actual cost of my Self-Employed Health Insurance.  It seems to me that the entry made in the Schedule C, Line 15 BOX for Self-Employed Health Insurance should transfer EXACTLY to Schedule 1, Line 17.   I could not override either the Schedule C, Line 15 BOX entry OR the Schedule 1, Line 17 entry.  The only way I could get as close to my Actual Cost of my Self-Employed Health Insurance on Schedule 1, Line 17 was to leave the Schedule C, Line 15 BOX for "Self-Employed Health Insurance" EMPTY.  This seems to be an error in Turbo Tax 2021 for Home and Business.  Please respond to me at the email address that you have on file for me.  Thank you.

In an attempt to duplicate the situation you described using Turbo Tax Home and Business, my test case did carry the entry from the Schedule C self-employed health insurance directly to Schedule 1 line 17.

If there is more than one Schedule C included with your return, then Schedule 1 line 17 will include the health insurance cost entered on all Schedule C businesses.

If you would be willing to share a diagnostic copy of your tax file, it could be helpful to examine the situation in more detail.  The diagnostic file will not contain personal identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.

To do so, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using in a follow-up thread.

Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:

  • Sign in to your account and be sure you are in your tax return.
  • Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
  • Select Tools.
  • Select Share my file with agent.
  • A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
  • Post the token number here.

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:

  • Select Online at the top of the screen.
  • Select Send Tax File to Agent.
  • Click OK.
  • Post the token number here.
