I am trying to update schedule D for losses from stock sales in 2023 but when I pull it up there is not an editable document.

There isn't a lot to report but every bit helps.

if you are using the basic online version it does not have schedule D. you must upgrade. otherwise in the jump to/search box type "capital". no quotes. then from the list double-click on the capital asset sales worksheet. follow the instructions at the bottom of the window that opens.

or in step-mode Federal taxes> wages and income tab. scroll down to investment income, select one of the first two lines

I believe that even in forms mode with the desktop version, you can't directly edit schedule D.  Most of the information on schedule D flows from a worksheet or another form like form 8949.  You have to edit the source of the information where it flows from, rather than directly editing the schedule D.
