Selecting an edition

In years past I have used TurboTax Premier due to having sold some investments during the year.  This year I have not sold anything, however, I did receive dividend and capital gains distributions from mutual funds that I hold.  I am wondering if TurboTax Deluxe can handle the distributions or if I need TurboTax Premier for that.

Yes you still need Premier.  Unless you buy the Desktop CD/Download program.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.

You can try starting in Deluxe and it will tell you to upgrade if you enter something that needs Premier.

My plan was to get the desktop program on CD from Amazon.  The reason I posted the question is that Deluxe is about $30 less expensive than Premier and I'd rather save the $30 if possible.

Yes Desktop Deluxe CD/Download can do everything Premier or Home & Business does.
