Question

Should I use the tax payment stub for state taxes that says form not final, do not file?

My state return was accepted in January, but it says "form not final, do not file" on the payment stub form to mail with my payment. I need to mail my payment in, so do I just send that one anyway?

I wouldn't but that's just me.

Other options:

Check your won state's tax wesite:

1) IF you want to actually do a Direct Debit form a checking account, some states have a payment site in their own tax pages taht allow you to do a D.Debit and jsut dump the form.

2)  IF you still want to pay by check in the mail, the state's tax sites usually also have a voucher form you can download and print out as a PDF document.

Why does the voucher have Do Not File on it???

....Well........

a)  Some states allow E-filing before they allow any state forms to be prepared and mailed in on paper...sticking a DO Not File on those forms at that point in time, keeps people form mailing them in before their staff are ready for paper form processing.

b)  You might try downloading a NEW pdf of your tax file and see if it's still printing out that voucher the same way...sometimes TTX updates the forms in an account after-the-fact to take off the Do Not File  (but I can't know if they did so in every/any case)
