My wife and I have tax withheld from our Social Security payments.  Where does that get reported on the 1040 form?

When you enter the SSA-1099 for Social Security there is a box for withholding.

    Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099  under

Federal Taxes on the left side or top

    Wages and Income

Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit  button

Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:

    Married Filing Jointly: $32,000

Single or head of household: $25,000

    Married Filing Separately: 0

For 2023 Social Security is on line 6a and any taxable amount on 6b.  The withholding will show up on 1040 line 25b.

You will enter your SSA1099 and enter the tax that was withheld.

Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

Here's a screen shot from 2021 online entry screen.  Withholding is entered in box 6.  It's the second row of boxes.
