Question

Some dividends on 1099-DIV represent interest on Treasury obligations. How do I report them so they are subtracted from income on my Maryland return?

1) Edit your 1099-DIV form

2)  Double-check that all numbers are correct on the main form, and "continue" to the next page.

3)  A page with checkboxes.....check the box for "A portion of these dividends is U.S. Government interest"....then Continue to the next page.

4)  Put the $$ amount that was from US Govt bonds in the box and continue thru the rest of the questions.

That should take care of it.   (barring any MD software bugs)
