Specific question for ITIN for NRA: "certified" copy of documents?

As I'm advancing in getting my spouse's ITIN prepared, it looks like the IRS wants something better than just a plain photocopy for the supporting documents (passport, visa, etc.). I'm seeing phrases like "certified copy," "original document," "notarized document."

Can anyone share their experience here? When you submitted what was the caliber of documents you submitted?

Yes, the IRS requires either original documents or documents copies certified by the issuing agency. They will reject an ITIN application with plain photocopies.

You can also present original documents to a Certifying Acceptance Agent who can then attach a statement verifying photocopies of documents that the agent will attach to the application for you.

I have a certified copy of only the biographic page of my spouse's foreign passport, stamped by the official issuing passport agency. It's brand new with no stamps in it. Do I need to submit certified copies of every page of the entire passport booklet?
