Sportsbetting (1099-K forms)
Hi! I am new to sports betting and I have 3 questions. I am not itemizing any deductions for this year (taking the standard deduction).
1) https://news.bloombergtax.com/daily-tax-report/how-to-file-your-taxes-if-you-bet-on-sports-explained According to the Bloomberg article, if you make a $1,000 bet and it gives you $1,500 profit, if I am not itemizing any deductions, I have to file $2,500 of income. How does this make any sense? I am putting down $1,000 to win $1,500... that originally $1,000 is not profit or winnings. Is this article simply wrong?
2) If I made $3,000 and lost $1,000 sports betting (across 2 different sites), do the two offset (and I pay tax on the net +$2,000)? How would I file this on Turbotax?
3) Some sites withdraw to Paypal. In this case, both the site and Paypal are sending me separate 1099-K forms. How do I make sure I'm not getting double taxed for the same winnings?
