Hi, I went onto the SSA site to pull my SSA-1099 and there 2 pages with different amounts in the boxes but both pages have my SS# but box 8 Claim Number, has my SS# and an A appended and the second page for box 8 has my wife's SS# with a B1 appended to it?? I have no idea why or which to report?? I haven't pulled my wife's SSA-1099 yet.

There are 12 letters that may follow the numerical part of the number. A letter code can be followed by additional number suffix letters

Letter code “A” is the most prevalent code. It denotes a primary claimant who is retired and has paid into the Medicare system as a wage earner for at least 40 quarters.

Letter code "B1" means that your wife has a husband who is older than 62.

When you enter your SSA-1099 into TurboTax, do not enter those letter codes.  Just enter the social security numbers.
