State says im not eligible to efile because returns that do not have an ssn or ein for each dependent care provider are not eligible for electronic filing

Go back to the Dependent Care Credit section in the federal portion and make sure you have either the SSN or EIN for each care provider you have listed on your return.   You can e-file your federal return without it, but you won't get the credit if you do not provide that information.    There will be an option to choose one of those formats, SSN (xxx-xx-xxxx) or an EIN (xx-xxxxxxx).

The last requirement to take the credit is:

  • You must furnish the care provider's name, address, and (unless it's a tax-exempt organization) their SSN, ITIN, or EIN on your return.

To edit these forms, you have to go back to the federal section.   How do I get to the Dependent Care Credit section?   If you update the information, you will ensure you get your full credit on your federal return and are able to e-file your state return.

Please try to delete this form to resolve the error.  To do this, follow the instructions below:

To resolve:

  1. While signed in to your return, search for child care credit (use this exact term) using Search or Help in the upper right corner and then click the "Jump to" link in your search results.
  2. At the Did you pay for child or dependent care in 2017? screen, answer Yes. (Even though it doesn't make sense.)
  3. Continue to the Whose care did you pay for? screen and uncheck all boxes. Click Continue.
  4. In the left main menu bar, click Tax Tools > Tools and then select Delete a Form from the Tools Center pop-up.
  5. Scroll down the list of forms and click Delete next to 2441.
  6. Click Delete Form to confirm. You should see the message Form Successfully Deleted. Click Continue.
  7. Back at the Review Form List screen, scroll down to make sure 2441 no longer appears on the list.

I am having the same error. I did not have any dependent care providers or receive any credit for dependent care.

Same problem here - no dependents listed on either federal forms or state forms.  Turbotax program error.

Hope they fix it soon

This is crazy. I have not entered any dependent care costs and I get the same Fix Error screen. I am also in Kentucky so it has to be something with the Kentucky download update.  Followed advice above and on MacOS version of TT Business, I do not have a delete button to get rid of Form 2441 either. I did manage to highlight the form and use the delete key to remove but still get the same notification of the SSN or EIN for dependent care when I go through analysis. But if I click Done it provides me an option to e-file my state return. I am afraid to try and then have to print it out and mail it in.

Please advise.
