On the screen "State of Domicile", there is a question for "where were you domiciled":

So for a married couple filing jointly while owning a home in state A, if person X works in another state (California) for more than 183 days (rents an apartment too), is the state of domicile CA or state A for person X on this screen?

Also is person X resident or nonresident for tax purposes?

The Domicile is your permanent residence, so you are domiciled in state A.

Thanks.  So to clearify, X moves into CA mid-year and is still working and residing in CA.  Does that change anything?

On the "personal info" page at the very beginning of filing,  is "state of residence"  California right?

    Thanks again.

It depends if you intend to become a permanent resident of California.  See 2024 Guidelines for Determining Resident Status.

A part of the intent is if you want to return to your old state or if it is a permanent move. @ifpwjlw
