You should file a joint return with her, even if one spouse had no little income.

For a joint return for tax year 2024, the standard deduction is $29,200 while on a Single status return, the standard deduction is only $14,600.  The additional standard deduction for a blind taxpayer—i.e. a taxpayer whose vision is less than 20/200— and for a taxpayer who is age 65 or older at the end of the year is for each instance:

  • $1,500 for married individuals; and
  • $1,850 for singles and heads of household.

By including her on the return as your spouse, you will have a higher standard deduction.  This will help you to pay less taxes.
