What form does a student use?

    Everyone files on a 1040 now.  Nothing special about being a student.  Is someone claiming them as a dependent?  

     

    If they only got a W2 for under 12,200 they don't have to file except to get back any withholding taken out. If it is more or they got a 1099Misc for any amount they do have to file a return.


    Be sure on their return they check the box that says they can be claimed on someone else's return. That is VERY important!
