Tax Year 2016: Husband passed away 8/2/16, how do I answer what state he lived in as of dec 2016, also what he did?

I am sorry for your loss.  Enter the state he resided in as of the date of his passing.  As far as his Occupation, you can either enter what he did when he earned the income, or simply put Deceased.  That part is just for statistical purposes.
