Question

Tax Year 2021 transmissions are not available.

Why am I getting the error message "Tax Year 2021 transmissions are not available?" I have never seen anything like this. I asked for a call back in Turbotax chat since it is impossible to reach a live person. I was quoted an 8-minute return call time frame and it has now been 5 hours and no one has called. I didn't realize how difficult it was to reach a representative, so moving forward I will no longer use TurboTax.

TurboTax is aware of this issue and it is under investigation.  So sorry for the inconvenience.  I'll do my best to update you when the issue has been resolved.

Which state are you filing in?

I'm getting the same message and I'm in North Carolina. Turbo Tax just emailed me telling me that my forms are ready to complete filing, but it won't let me file.

This is really frustrating to say the least.

The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing.  It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022

Go to this TurboTax website for North Carolina state forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_nc_online_individual.html

If you want to e-file your federal tax return now then change how you file the NC state return.  This assumes that all of the forms and schedules included in your federal tax return are available for e-filing.

If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen.  On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit.  Select the button File by Mail.  Then change the filing status of the state return.

After the federal return is e-filed and accepted by the IRS you can e-file the state return when it is available for e-filing.  Just use the same procedure and change the state return back to e-filing.

I'm filing in North Carolina and have run into the same problem when I tried to e-file twice.

    February 13, 2022

    Ditto.  Also NC!

TurboTax took my money and told me to be sure my program was updated -- it was -- and then told me "you may need to file this return by mail -Tax Year 2021 Transmissions are not available - Turbo Tax is not ready to process Tax Year 2021 for this return."

All I had was some simple 1099-related files, no W-2s and standard deduction (no entries made for deductions, as there wasn't enough to bother.)   Can't get much simpler than that, unless the lack deduction entries caused the system to choke.)

Same problem. Can't get through to speak to anyone.

    February 15, 2022

I am having the exact same issue. It has been happening since Saturday. I just want to file. I’m about to redo it somewhere else.

    February 15, 2022

    Mee too!!

    February 15, 2022

Looks like NC is causing the issue. Bummer. I don't live in NC but I work there.

    February 16, 2022

file federal and state separately. you can efile federal refund now and then file state once NC gets it together and is ready to accept returns

    February 15, 2022

This happened to me also. Has anyone figured out what is going on with it?

    February 15, 2022

Do you live in NC? Apparently NC state returns causing the problem

Everything checks out, all info is correct. But still says Tax Year 2021 transmissions not available?  And Turbo Tax has already taking their payment?

My federal return had already been filed successfully. I think the issue for most people on this thread is the email we received (regarding NC state returns) stating that, quote -

"The wait is over! The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready to go.
Form D-400, Individual Income Tax Return Main Form

Sign in to TurboTax and pick up where you left off to complete your return."

In spite of the date provided by intuit of 2/24/22.

If the NC forms will not be released until 2/24, then who sent the email and why? Was it an error? If so, it's understood, these things happen, but an explanation would be appropriate to avoid all this confusion.

    February 15, 2022

YES! That's why everyone has been confused. I did signup for emails for them to let me know when that form would be available, but I think the confusion would've been extremely limited had they clarified from the jump that nothing would be available to actually e-file until February 24th. I couldn't even access that D-400 form until last week. It sucks even more for permanent residents (like myself) who had to wait to even access that form and still have to wait to actually e-file ANOTHER WEEK.

    February 15, 2022

This worked for me thank you so much!!

I am having the same issue, I received an email on Friday that stated the NC forms were now ready, But as of today they are still not transmitting. I spoke with an intut rep yesterday (Monday) who said it was a known issue with the NC form, and advised me to try again periodically, but so far nothing. Supposedly the delay is in how NC released the forms to the IRS, but who really knows. If anyone has had success in resolving this issue, please reply. Thanks.

@ DoninGA,  I understand that the date listed on the page in the link is 2/24/22, however, NC residents have received an email stating that the NC forms have been released and are ready to file/transmit, which is why we are posting this thread to begin with. Your continuous re-post of this canned response is not helping at all. Other than your possibly gathering "intuit badge points" for yourself. If you don't have a real solution, I suggest you make room for someone who can actually resolve the issue.
