Tax Year Prior to 2020: A 1 was added to the beginning ofmy employer state Id # is that normal

Not normal. Even though all state IDs are different from each other, I've never seen one that starts with A1. Having said that, anything is possible. Which state are you referring to? On the hand from my experience, it wouldn't matter so long as the employer federal ID is correct. This will not cause your return to be rejected even if it is not correct.
