Tax Year Prior to 2020: Importing information from Edward Jones

I have tried several times to import me Edward Jones info for the 2019 tax season.  I get this error message:

"Unable to download since one or more of your Edward Jones account(s) has incomplete tax information. Try again at a later date."

I have contacted EJ, and they say that everything is complete.  Any idea where I go next?  I don't want to enter it all myself.  I don't want to screw it up.

Unfortunately, if you can not upload your Edward Jones Information, you are going to have to manually input it into TurboTax.  Are these the steps that you used?

You can securely import your 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-OID, or 1099-R into TurboTax, provided your broker or financial institution participates in our TurboTax partner program.

    1. While in your Tax Home,
    2. Select Search in the top right corner of your screen,
    3. Enter 1099-B,
    4. Select the Jump to 1099-B,
    5. Follow the screens and you’ll be able to import your form.

You can import up to 1,500 transactions from your financial institution in TurboTax Online.

Talked to Edward Jones last week and again today.  They said the software glitch lies with Turbo Tax.  Wish i could talk to a live person, but can't find a phone number anywhere.  Can anyone help?

I've been experiencing that problem too. I'll see if contacting a warm body will help next week, following the holiday. good luck.

I'd like o know what process TurboTax uses to determine that the information is incomplete.

    Wednesday 2/16:

The import process seems to work now.  I talked with support for quite a while yesterday, but  import wasn't working when we finished. So no changes over here, but I'm a happy camper today.

    thanks.

I agree! I’d love to know that as well. Edward Jones insists everything is fine and perfectly complete. Post if you get anywhere!

I'm having the same issue. I have the paper form from EJ, but do NOT want to enter any of this myself. This is why I purposely choose TurboTax, so that I can import and know that I didn't do a big WHOOPS. HELP!

UPDATE: I thought I'd give it another try today. And it worked. I did nothing different. But it transmitted like a charm. So glad it did too, as I noticed it increased my refund compared to what it was when I tried to bumble my way though and manually enter things.

I'm using TurboTax Home & Business CD with updates current. The problem seems to persist for me today. What version are you using?

    February 21, 2020

Spent time with Edward Jones insuring the forms were final.  Spent over one hour with turbo tax explaining issue and informing the tech support that I was not the only one having the issue.  They gave me a case number and told me to try again in a day or two.  Miraculously the document downloaded and taxes are filed.

I am having issue can not import tax information from Edward Jones.

    February 26, 2020

Edward Jones is one of TurboTax import partners. Unfortunately, if you cannot upload the information, you may have to manually input it into TurboTax.

However, having said all this I believe there was a problem importing from Edward Jones about a week ago but I believe it has been resolved. Try again or try using a different browser.

I am having the same problem.  Not able to import any of my 1099 junk and it is quite a lot to try and tackle manually.  I am able to log in to Edward Jones account online and everything is fine there.  What a waste of time and money.  Should have just paid someone to to this.

Whew! I've successfully filed my 2021 taxes using TurboTax Premier and was so impressed with how easily it imported my Edward Jones information. My investments were the main reason I thought I needed TT Premier. I have no other income because I'm on Social Security. I have no taxes to pay. Next year, I'd like to try TurboTax Free. Two questions: Is TurboTax Free the same as TurboTax Online? Will TurboTax Free allow me to import my Edward Jones information as easily as it was using TurboTax Premier?

    @celkins

A lot depends on what happens in your EJ account.  IF you have even $1 of sales transactions, stocks, bonds or Mutual funds, or any bond redemptions, then Online Premier is required. ...not even "Online" Deluxe will do that. .    IF only a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV is needed, then sometimes the "Free' version will do and that my not include the ability to "import " the forms.   Also, I'm not sure whether that would include premium amortizations, nor accrued interest declarations that might be a part of your 1099-INT form

    ________________________

Desktop Deluxe can import and use all the EJ stuff though  (Desktop BASIC is supposed to also, but it is pretty crude, and there is no free state download with "Basic" )

Thanks SteamTrain. That was helpful. Desktop Deluxe might be the safer bet. Do you happen to know if, having purchased Deluxe for example and it doesn't do what I need it to, I can upgrade to Premium mid-stream without having to pay full purchase price again?
