  • So my wife and I are separated and live in two different homes, she has an apartment in which case is funded by the government and so she collects money, whereas I have a job and have income. My question is will she lose her government funding if we file together? I know that it's a considerable amount of money difference but I don't want to affect her living arrangement or mine for that matter.

    This is not a tax question. You would have to find out what the rules are from whatever government agency pays for your wife's apartment.
