The IRS prefers you wait til 2/28 because you may still get your w-2 then if not contact them and have avaialble as much employer info as possible.

f your company has gone out of business and you haven’t received your Form W-2, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Contact the IRS: If you haven’t received your W-2 by February 28, you can call the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) at 800-829-1040 to lodge a complaint. They may be able to assist you in obtaining a substitute Form W-2.

  2. Receive a Substitute W-2: If your employer or its representatives fail to provide you with a Form W-2, you can create a substitute W-2 to file your taxes using Form 4852. This form allows you to estimate your wages and taxes withheld based on your last pay stub.
