The software is requiring me to complete the question for whether to treat a nonresident alien or dual-status alien as u.s. resident, but my wife is a resident/citizen.

I have not checked a box that she is a nonresident alien or dual-status alien so why is it forcing me to answer this question?

Go back slowly and very carefully through the screens in MY INFO to find the one where you accidentally clicked that she was dual citizenship or a resident alien.
