Solved

The TTax file for tax year 2016, *.tax2016, is mysteriously corrupt. How can I access your 2016 back-up? The CD version of Premier for 2016 & 2017 is loaded on my PC.

If you file using the desktop version, TurboTax does not save a copy of your return. You would only have a copy of your return if you have the saved copy or if you get a transcript from the IRS.

You can get a transcript from the IRS by going to their Get Transcript site, choose Get Transcript Online, and follow the directions (if you don't already have an account, you'll need to set one up).
